MacOS Sierra offers three ways to activate Siri on a Mac, but there's another way that lets you use the 'Hey, Siri' command. Matt Elliott Nov. 21, 2016 8:43 a.m.
Siri was initially created to answer your questions and help you out in tasks by just talking to it. Over the years Apple has added continued intelligence into Siri's design, and today it's found on MacBooks and most other Apple products. So you no longer need an iPhone to access and interact with Siri. In the latest release of macOS High Sierra for Macs, Apple includes a new feature called Type to Siri in macOS that lets you type out instructions to Siri rather than speaking.
For folks using a Mac mini or a Mac Pro, we can now use Siri without having to connect a microphone for Siri to hear us!

Why Use Type to Siri instead of Speaking to Siri?
It's common to see users complaining about Siri's error-prone interception of voice inputs and often ending up doing the wrong task. With the type to Siri feature, this problem gets solved easily. Plus you can also speak to Siri even when the type to Siri feature is running, so you get two ways to interact with this personal assistant.
How to check mac system storage. Activating the feature on a Mac is pretty much a cakewalk! You find the option in the standard System Preferences on your Mac.
Enable Type to Siri on a Mac running macOS High Sierra
Make sure your Mac runs macOS High Sierra version 10.13 or newer or the Type to Siri in macOS won't work for you. This feature isn't available on Macs running earlier versions of macOS or Mac OS X, even those machines that have the standard speaking-Siri version available on them.
- Click on the Apple menu located in the top-left corner of your Mac's screen and select the option that says System Preferences and you will see the main settings panel for your machine.
- Once you have opened the preferences panel navigate to the option called Accessibility. Here you find the Type to Siri feature.
- When the accessibility panel opens, find and click on Siri on the left-hand side list. You'll now see a checkbox in the right panel that says Enable Type to Siri. Tick the box and the feature is enabled system-wide on your Mac.
Have Siri on Your Menu Bar
Having quick access to Siri is a must for a lot of users. To get Siri on your main Menu Bar, open Siri's preferences by choosing the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Siri and tap Show Siri in Menu Bar. Or if preferred, create a Keyboard Shortcut to bring Siri up (default is Funtions+Space Bar.) You can even customize your Keyboard Shortcut!
Using Type to Siri in macOS
Now that you've enabled the feature, let's see how it works for you. To do that, trigger Siri by either clicking on its icon located in the top menu bar or clicking on its Dock icon. Once it launches, it should be ready to answer your text commands. To start with, merely type in 'what's the time in New York City right now,' and it responds you as if you had spoken to it.
All of the Siri voice commands should work with the typing mode as the only thing that has changed here is the way you interact with Siri. If you have found out the time in New York City, it's time you ask it 'what does the fox say' to hear some funny sounds.
With this feature included, Siri has now become more than just a voice assistant. As I mentioned before, the feature ensures Siri does the right task for you as it now has explicit text commands for it and it won't have to translate your words into commands.
All in all, the type to Siri feature is worth having as it now provides you with one more way to interact with Siri. Let us know what you think about this new feature in the comments section below.

Fl studio mac 2017. Apple is working on bringing the Mac and iOS closer together with the introduction of macOS 10.15 and iOS 13. Siri Shortcuts, Screen Time, and more are expected to be unveiled for Mac during its Worldwide Developers conference in June.
According to people familiar with the development of macOS 10.15 – which has been in the works for at least two years – the new version will include support for Siri Shortcuts, a feature introduced in iOS 12 which allows users to create custom voice shortcuts for actions that can be done in apps.
It's also likely that the Shortcuts app – a result from the acquisition of Workflow – will be available on macOS, the inclusion of system-wide support for Siri Shortcuts on macOS 10.15 strongly suggests it. On iOS, the Shortcuts app is not bundled with the system, users have to download it from the App Store. It's possible that the same will be true for macOS: users will download a Marzipan version of Shortcuts from the Mac App Store.

Supporting the feature on macOS is important so developers of iPad apps can more easily port their Shortcuts-enabled apps to the Mac, with the new SDK becoming available at WWDC. According to sources, only Marzipan apps will be able to take advantage of the Shortcuts support on macOS. Engineers are also working on bringing the assistant on macOS closer to its iOS counterpart by porting over features such as the ability to set timers and alarms and ask about air quality, currently unavailable on the Mac.
Another major feature from iOS 12 that's coming to the Mac with macOS 10.15 is Screen Time. The feature allows users to see how much time they're spending in apps and to limit the amount of time that can be spent in a specific app or category of apps, such as social media. Parents can also use Screen Time to set time limits for their children.

Screen Time on the Mac will work just like it does on iOS. There will be a new panel in System Preferences to configure the feature. When the time limit for an app has been exceeded, an overlay will be shown, allowing the user to either close the app or unlock the app with a passcode.
Apple is also working on bringing a new Apple ID management panel to System Preferences, including better support for configuring Family Sharing, similar to what's currently available in the iOS Settings app. Yet another feature from iOS that's coming to the Mac with macOS 10.15 are the iMessage effects such as confetti, lasers, fireworks and others.
macOS 10.15 should be announced during WWDC which starts on June 3rd, released as a beta for developers the same day. The final version for consumers should be available in late September or October.
